Competing with Cosmos Dauda brings out the best in me - Bakai

Teenage marksman for Accra Hearts of Oak, Selassie Bless Bakai says battling with experienced Cosmos Dauda brings out the best in him.

Bakai was promoted from the youth side of the club, Auroras where he became a thorn in the flesh of opposing defence, battering them and scoring goals to challenge himself with the senior side.

Cast in the mould of former club strikers, Ishmeal Addo and Mahatma Otoo, Bakai who so far scored a goal in seven outings for the Phobians sees the competition with Dauda as a motivation rather than a deterrent.

"It is something that really motivates me. Dauda is one of the best strikers in the league. As with many great footballers, he may have had challenges but that does not change the fact he's a gifted and a proven scorer." Bakai told kickgh.com

“I am always convinced in my convictions, testing myself against the best is something which inspires me and brings out the best in me. We work in a very close environment on a daily basis. We always tend to get on really well and try to push each other. At a club like Hearts, its how you can contribute to the team and not personal glory.”

The Phobians are sixth on the log accumulating 10 points in seven games- a displeasing news to the fans of the club but Bakai is optimistic things will soon change.

"Things haven't been rosy as envisaged but I believe the tables will soon turn because we are highly motivated to win as several matches as possible to make our fans happy. It won't be easy but it isn't beyond our reach."

Bakai recently earned a call-up into Ghana's national U-20 team; the Black Satellites.
