Partey's Atletico Madrid fail to qualify for Champions League round of 16

The Spanish top-flight side failed to qualify to the next round of the UEFA Champions League.

Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Teye Partey's Atletico Madrid couldn't make it to the UEFA Champions League round of 16 despite their draw with Chelsea.

Chelsea were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Atletico Madrid at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.

The Blues had dominated until the opening goal, with Alvaro Morata going close and Eden Hazard almost weaving through the visiting defence.

But Saul Niguez escaped the attentions of Tiemoue Bakayoko to plant home a header from Fernando Torres' near-post flick-on after 56 minutes.

Chelsea piled forward as time ebbed away, and Stefan Savic turned Eden Hazard's cross into his own net as the pressure told.

The Ghana international enjoyed the entire duration of the game with a splendid performance.
