PREVIEW: WAFA VS Asante Kotoko - Nostalgic moments as the porcupine warriors make their first trip away

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have already made their trip to Sogakope to face West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) in their outstanding league game this afternoon and it is the first time they have done so since their gory accident on the 7th July which claimed the life of Thomas Obeng Asare, the team's assistant equipment officer.

For now, it will read unfortunate for the porcupine lads as they have reached a fortress where it has not been a favourite grounds for travellers in the league as WAFA have won nine out of their ten league games on the astro turf pitch this season.

Even with the unavailability of majority of the players that have brought the club this far- second on the league table- it still will remains a difficult ground for the "kum apem" side.

In as much as Kumasi Asante Kotoko have not lost any game since their recovery from that trauma- drawing against Hearts and winning against Nea Salamina in the FA Cup- there is nothing like a pride in this knowing that your next game is against the high flying academicians.

Even though the records speaks against WAFA as they have lost four as against their three wins against Kotoko, they will look more favourites to get the points against their rivals from Kumasi. Reasons being that, they are a better team this season than their opponents and have greater sense of psyche heading into this game.

WAFA still have a chunk of their players outside the country seeking for greener pastures like Majeed Ashimeru, Jamal Haruna, Emmanuel Boateng, just to mention a few but should have it at ease to face an opponent that have not been so much a better team on the road this season.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have never scored or won against WAFA since 2005 and with the form that the latter is in, it should look likely that Kotoko will return to Kumasi empty-handed. That should not necessarily mean Kotoko cannot reverse the trend today.

All factor and numbers favor the academy side as they are yet to look in their last forty (40) games in the league at home winning thirty-one and drawing nine. So therefore, making it an herculean task for the away side.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko will enter this game with a complete squad except Sadick Adam and Ollenu Ashittey, not forgetting Michael Akuffo who is yet to recover from that accident at Nkawkaw.

Winning the game will send WAFA on top of the league log again as they already trail Aduana by a point whereas a win for Kotoko will push them closer to their bitter rivals by reducing their points deficit to one.
