PREVIEW: France vs Uruguay - Uruguay's defensive prowess face France's Speed

France and Uruguay will begin the first quarter-final match of World Cup 2018 in what is expected to be a fiercy encounter at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Friday.

France knocked out Argentina in a dramatic fashion with Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe leading the force, with their opponents seeing off Portugal in the round of 16.

The game will be a battle of club team-mates, Lucas Hernandez and Antoine Griezmann  face off with Atletico Madrid mates Diego Godin and Jose Giminez, while PSG partners Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe also lock horns.

Les Blues greatest asset will be how to utilise the pace of its attackers.

"If you let France  have space it will be very difficult," Uruguay's coach Oscar Tabarez was quick to admit.

He also insisted  that he is happy to cede possesion to France in a bid to clinch a semi-final spot.

Uruguay have been a defensive force in the 2018 mundial with the South Americans conceding only one goal prior to their game against France.

The former World champions are sweating  over the fitness of star striker Edinson Cavani but La Celeste hope to rely on their defensive agility.

The last encounter between  the two sides was a goaless drawn game in South Africa.
