PREVIEW: Al Hilal vs Asante Kotoko - Away strength for Kotoko or home advantage for Al Hilal?

After a remarkable achievement of reaching the group stages of the African Club Competition for the first time in eleven years, Asante Kotoko will make their debut group stage game in the 2018/19 CAF Confederations Cup far away in Omdurman, Sudan.

Asante Kotoko have so far played exceedingly well to trespass their expected level in this competition as the responds to participate in the Africa came spontaneously. However, it has been a fair and a well display for the Porcupine Warriors, thus far.

Having mounted this acme by defying all odds to reach the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup, now, it remains as nothing there is to lose for Asante Kotoko knowing that they have six games in the group stages to stretch in their Africa prowess.

To ensure a superb outing in the group stages as they solidly did in the preliminaries, Asante Kotoko start on the road with a tricky fixture against Al Hilal from Sudan who have been a good foes for the "kum apem" side since 1990, recording some fine results against them.

There shouldn't be much to expect from Charles Kwablan Akonnor's side going to Sudan as they've already worked their socks off bar what Ghanaians expected from them after having failed numerous times in Africa after the last decade.

With history beating down Asante Kotoko in Sudan, Al Hilal will have their urges behind them before the game as they pinched down Asante Kotoko by 3-0 in their last visit some 15 years ago but Al Hilal will have to be extremely cautious as the visitors have been tough customers to their opponents away from home.

Even a difficult Kariobangi Sharks had their own share of spoils against Kotoko in Kenya at the Moi International Sports Center and Coton Sport lost to them in Cameroon in their last fixture.

This will surely be a real test of what both clubs will be giving out in the group stages. A win for any of the sides will not only be a booster for them but a good assurance of making it past the group stages. C.K. Akonnor have maintained almost the same team he used against Coton Sport in both legs en route to this game and should be well oiled for this game as there would be chemistry and cohesion needed in the team.

Returning home from a long journey empty handed will well mean a waste of means and resources which Asante Kotoko will be drummed into of not letting the journey be in ephemeral by getting at least a point in Sudan.

Asante Kotoko will be looking to strengthen their away form in Africa like they've done this season against Kariobangi Sharks and Coton Sport this afternoon, while Al Hilal will be in to have a good start in the group stages at home which will make this encounter all to watch for.
