Mosimane makes history as Ahly beat rivals Zamalek to win their 9th Champions league title

Tunisian giants Al Ahly have clinched their ninth CAF Champions League title after beating their rivals Zamalek in the 2019/20 CAF Champions League final in Cairo.

Al Ahly started the first ten minutes on a very higher note mounting pressure on their arch-rivals.


On the fifth minute, Tunisian international Ali Maloul's cross was met by Amr Al Sulaya right at the first pole who headed into the net to put the Red Devils in front.

Jaime Pacheco and his charges responded quickly attacking with intent and purpose to get the equaliser.
Mahmoud Shikabala connected really well with Ben Charki in a swift one-two pass but the skipper's effort went straight into the waiting arms of Egypt no.1 Mohammed El Shenawy.
Finally, the equaliser came on the 30th minute, experience Shikabala controlled a Bencharki pass down the left flanks, took on three defenders and a sent in a thunderbolt which went straight into the top left corner to bring Zamalek back on level terms.
In the last 15 minutes, both teams proved something different with the White Knights dominant but all efforts went furtile.
The first half of the match ended in a one-all draw at the Cairo International Stadium.
In the second half, the White Knights started really well with a fine build up, a long pass from Ferjani Sassi falls on Mustapha Mohammed but his effort was collected calmly by El Shenawy.
On the 50th minute, another fine control by Sayed Zizou who raced his way into the penalty box but his effort was cut out by Mohammed Hany.
Ajayi with a quick one-two connection with Ali Maloul who sent in a ground inswinger, Hussein El Shahat left all alone at far post but struck it off the poles and was later cleared by Mahmoud Alaa.
Injury concerns for both teams at a point as both Mahmoud Shikabala and Junior Ajayi left the pitch due to injuries, replaced by Kasongo and Gerardo Da Costa respectively.
A good serging run from Sayed Zizou, sends a fantastic long range strike but his effort went off the post, just unlucky!
Mohammed Magdy's sumptuous rocket went straight into the top right corner to make it 2-1 in favour of the Red Devils.
Al Ahly are the 2019/20 CAF Champions League winners, clinching it for the ninth time.
A historic feat for Head Coach Pitso Mosimane, the first South African to win the CAF Champions League with a foreign club.
