Ghanaian striker Francis Afriyie is under investigation by his club following death threats he directed to a journalist during a team training.


Afriyie was reported by his head coach after the player jumped over the barriers around the training field to abuse a journalist there verbally.

The situation got more difficult when the player started trying to get involved in a physical altercation with the journalist while directing death threats to him.
The Ghanaian forward’s teammates and the club staff tried to calm him, but he was blinded by his anger until the club’s security then meddled to stop the player.
Following that, the situation is now under investigation of the legal affairs to decide deserved punishment.
The club will also report the accident to Players Affairs Committee in the Egyptian Football Association and inform them of the decided penalty.
Afriyie joined Ghazl El-Mahalla on a free transfer following his one season among Botswana’s Township Rollers ranks.
The 26-year-old was handed just 47 minutes of playing time this season as El-Mahalla sit 13th in the Egyptian Premier League.
Afriyie was part of the Bechem United team that won the 2016 MTN FA Cup.
He left Bechem United after the 2016/17 season to join Serbian club Vojvodina before moving to Mexican side Murciélagos FC.
