Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil is very disappointed and has questioned the timing of the sacking of the senior national team head coach.

The GFA Executive Committee last Monday, arrived at a decision to sack Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor following his disappointing performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers just recently.

However, the county's highest football governing body added that, there are going to name a new substantive coach in the next few days to prepare the team for another crunchy qualifying matches next month.
This has brought series of speculations in the local media, linking several coaches to the Black Stars vacant managerial post including top-notch Herve Renard and former coaches Milovan Rajevac and Akwesi Appiah.
Speaking to Citi FM in Accra, the former West Ham and Fulham defender expressed his dissatisfaction over the decision describing it as the wrong time to call for this decision. He said;
"It’s not a nice feeling, when it happens to a coach, it is like it has happened to all of us."
“However, this is the nature of a coaches job, sometimes you get a good start, other times you get a bad start.” He said in an interview on Eyewitness News.
“I would say that it is rather unfortunate, this is not the right time at all, he should have been given time to work on the team."
“When you look at his statistics and what he has done, you can tell that he came at the wrong time, and he didn’t get the chance to camp the players enough before most of the games."
“For me, it is very disappointing."
