MATCH REPORT: Andre Ayew's penalty sends Ghana to the playoff round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers Featured

Ghana cruise into the playoff round after edging out the Bafana Bafana of South Africa by a narrow 1-0 triumph at the Cape Coast Stadium to finish as winners of Group G with goal difference.

Ghana started on a higher note swinging most of their passes in their own half but the South Africans were very well organised at the back containing the pressure of the attack.

The Bafanas Bafanas with their first incursion after nine minutes, Nyiko Mobbie sent a long pass to locate Victor Letsoalo who fouled Daniel Amartey in the process.
 
The Ghanaians were dealt with a huge blow after starboy Kudus Mohammed sustained an injury on the 12th minute. His place was taken by Daniel Kofi Kyereh.
 
Jordan Ayew was played through on the 14th minute cutting in from right but he got interrupted by an opposition player resulting into a wasted corner kick.
 
Ghana will go searching again, Iddrisu Baba set up Daniel Kofi Kyereh with a fine mirror pass but couldn't make his first attempt count after blasting wide for a restart.
 
Mubarak Wakaso again had his third consecutive poor corner kick cut out by Siyanda Xulu resulting into a wasted South African counter break.
 
Another corner for Ghana on the 31st minute. Kofi-Kyereh launched in a long one which eluded everyone, Daniel Amartey in an attempt to connect was brought down for a penalty by Rushine De Reuck.
 
Andre Ayew stepped up and scored awesomely to break the deadlock of the game.
 
Ghana again came really strong in the second half attacking with so much intent and purpose. Jordan Ayew's free kick on the 54th minute went straight at Ronwen Williams.
 
Teboho Mokoena twist and turn and sent a long one to set up Victor Letsoalo but goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott came off his line quickly to collect.
 
South Africa with a free kick on the 65th minute. Percy Tau's straight delivery went straight at the throat of the Ghanaian goalie. 
 
Ghana breaks on an attack, Kamaldeen Sulemana brilliantly takes on two defenders but his cross was connected wide by Andre Ayew.
 
On the 68th minute, Percy Tau broke from the right flanks, made a good serging run but his short was too feeble to beat Jojo Wollacott.
 
Kamaldeen Sulemana drives again, floored Nyiko Mobbie in the penalty box but fires wide for a restart.
 
South Africa appealed for a penalty after Percy Tau was brought down in the box but the referee Ndiaye Maguette wasn't interested.
 
After three minutes of additional time, the Senegalese official whitsled to bring the game an end here in Cape Coast. Ghana are through to the final and playoff round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
