AFCON 2021 MATCH REPORT: Aboukhlal rifles home to give Morocco 2-0 win over Comoros Featured

A Zakaria Aboukhlal 89th minute goal enabled lackluster Morocco to beat Comoros Islands 2-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group C first match.

The breakthrough came for the Atlas Lions when Hakimi opened Comoros up with a break down the right but some heroic defending denied Morocco with three efforts been blocked but the ball breaks to Amallah and he fires home through the defense and nipped into the back of the net.


Morocco started sharply in the 3rd minute with El Kaabi breaking down the right and lays into the middle for Tissoudali, who was fouled from behind by Mohamed Youssouf as he controls and goes to shoot but eventually the linesman’s flag went up.

Comoros goalkeeper Ben Boina showed a sensational performance as he denied En-Nesyri from the spot but could not prevent defeat for the tiny island nation.


The chance to nipped the victory when Zakaria Aboukhlal finally slides the ball past Ben Boina but the flag is raised, yet the goal stood and Morocco have the points wrapped up with the win.


Morocco has, however, advanced to the last 16 of the tournament.
