The Flames of Malawi came from behind to beat lacklustre Zimbabwe in the second Group B fixture at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gabadinho Mhango scored a brace from each half to power Malawi to a dramatic 2-1 win over the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Kouekong Stadium on Friday.

The Warriors dominated the first-half but could not create what is a clear goal scoring chance in the opening 26 minutes.

Zimbabwe duo Knowledge Musona and and Bruce Kangwa forced Malawi's keeper Ernest Kokhobwe into fine reaction saves.

Eventually the deadlock of the game was broken by Norman Mapeza's men when Ishmael Wadi headed home from Onismor Bhasera's perfect cross on the 38th minute.

The Flames, who were careless in possession, equalised after just five minutes with a ferocious strike from Gabadinho Mhango as the first-half ended 1-1.

Malawi's keeper Kokhobwe again saved well a close-range from Bruce Kangwa's ten minutes inside the second half.

Mario Marinica's side took the lead when Mhango, who caused much trouble for the Zimbabweans, grabbed his second with a powerful strike on the 58th minute.

There was still time for Zimbabwe, who lost 1-0 in their opening game to Senegal, but could not utilize the few opportunities that fell their way with the game ending 2-1 for Malawi.

In the first group B game, Senegal drew goalless with Guinea at the in Bafoussam.

Malawi, who are trailing Senegal and Guinea with just one point, are now placed second in Group B with three points, and have the possibility to progress to the last 16 of the tournament as one of the third-best teams.
