The reason behind the absence of the Broussia Dortmund trainer has been disclosed by the spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Ghana Football Association (GFA) communications director, Henry Asante Twum has revealed that Otto Addo's absence from the Black Stars' technical team was Broussia Dortmund's decision not to release him for just ended 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Addo, who has now been appointed as the new head coach of the four-time African champions was conspicuously missing on the technical team of the Black Stars at the 33rd edition of the Africa's biggest football tournament.

Asante Twum in an interview with Kumasi based radio station, Sikka FM revealed that the German Bundesliga outfit were reluctant to release him for the West African nation to join the team in Cameroon.

"Borussia Dortmund was not ready to release Otto Addo for the Afcon since it was not time for international break," he told Sikka FM.

Ghana recorded its worst-ever Africa Cup of Nations campaign after failing to pick a victory as they exited the tournament with just one point.

The executive council of the Ghana Football Association on Wednesday appointed Addo as the interim Black Stars coach following the sacking of Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac.

Addo will steer the team against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoff next month.

He will be assisted by George Boateng and Didi Dramani.

Chris Hughton, who was strongly linked with the vacant coaching job has been appointed as the technical advisor for the newly constituted technical team.

The Black Stars will take on the Super Eagles at the Cape Coast stadium on March 24 before travelling to Nigeria for the 2nd leg at the Abuja Sports stadium on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
