The relegated French top-flight campaigners have exercised their option by making the loan deal of the 23-year-old enforcer of Ghanaian descent permanent this summer
Ligue 2 side AS Saint-Étienne have announced the permanent signing of French-born Ghanaian midfielder Pierre Ekwah from English Premier League returnees Sunderland.
After spending the 2024-25 campaign on loan with The Greens, the ex-Chelsea U18 star is now set to spent time with those in charge of the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in the French second-tier contest for the subsequent campaigns.
An official statement over the permanent signing of the Ghana-prospect midfielder read on the club official media: ''AS Saint-Étienne confirms that it has exercised the option to buy Pierre Ekwah, which was part of his loan from Sunderland (England) last summer. The 23-year-old midfielder officially joins Eirik Horneland's squad after a first season in which he appeared 30 times in the Green jersey.''
Pierre Ekwah is still eligible to switch allegiance and play for Ghana at the international level despite featuring for the French U-16 & U-20 national youth teams.
He is of Ghanaian and Cameroonian parentage.
