After losing to Egypt in the world cup qualifier by two goals to nil at the Borg El Arab stadium last Sunday, the deputy youth and sports minister, Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah still believes “all is not lost” for the Black Stars to qualify to the world cup in Russia year

Even though the stars played so well against Egypt, the deputy minister still thought it was always going to be difficult to beat the Egyptians from what ensued between the two countries in their last world cup qualifier where the Stars lost to the Pharaohs by 2-1 in Egypt after walloping them 6-1 in Kumasi.

That withstanding, Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah says the ministry did everything there was to be done to make sure the Black Stars had a better preparation to the match.

“We gave all what we were supposed to provide. Our role as a ministry is to finance and whatever we were supposed to do, we did it.”

The task ahead of the Stars in winning a berth of being part of the final thirty-two (32) countries in Russia is still surmountable and he suggests that all hands should be on desk from all and sundry to make sure the country qualifies to the world cup rather than apportioning the blames to the doorsteps of the ministry.

“Instead of us identifying the problems and providing necessary solutions to them, we rather channel them to the doorsteps of the ministry and I don’t know where it is coming from. Against Uganda we said it was the pitch. Fortunately we had a very good pitch and we still lost. What should the ministry do? Do people want to see us- ministry and GFA- sleeping on the same bed before we can qualify to the world cup?”, he told Ahoto FM in Kumasi

The Black Stars play their next world cup qualifier game in a double headed match against Congo in March next year.
