The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif has identified the three tasks he is hoping to fulfil at his new role to contribute to development of sports especially football in the country in a meeting with the GFA last Wednesday.
The Yagaba-Kubori MP was named to become the political sports head of the country under Akuffo Addo's second administration coming in as successor for outgone Hon. Isaac Asiamah.
In a meeting with some officials from the country's highest football governing body, the newly appointed Sports Minister outlined his main three tasks of assuming this role of which they also assured him of their full support.
Hon. Mustapha has disclosed he wants to bring back the love in sports at school level at both Senior High and College where he believe it will serve as a perform platform to discover talents in various sporting fields for the country.
Again, he targeted winning the AFCON to break the country's almost 40 year drought and also stated it has been the wish of the President from the day one. Also, he promise to offer every support for the country to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, having missed the last edition in Russia.
“My aim is to revive competitions at the school and colleges level and I have already written to the Education Minister to help me set up a technical committee for that purpose."
“As a Minister, I should set objectives and work towards it so the Africa Cup of Nations is my next target. It is the dream of H.E Nana Akufo Addo, President of Ghana to win the AFCON and as a Minister, whatever we require to win the trophy, let’s start working on it now."
“The next thing is to qualify for the World Cup in 2022. We have done it before and we can do it again. I am ready; the way to go is to invest in the game and I can assure you that my Ministry will give you the needed push to succeed."
