Former Black Stars defender Osei Kuffour broods over Gyan's injury Featured

The hard-tackling guardsman believes the absence of the dependable forward in the quarter-finals of the on-going AFCON will be a big blow for the four-time African champions.

Ex Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour says he is very much worried about the injury of Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and fears his absence in the quarter-final game against DR Congo will come as a bad omen.

The 30-year-old forward limped off the pitch on the 39minute and was replaced by Aston Villa's striker Jordon Ayew following his groin injury - a game Ghana succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Egypt at the Stade Port Gentil in the last group D encounter.

Notwithstanding. his former national team-mate fears he could play no part in his side's crucial quarter-final encounter come on Sunday in Oyem against DR Congo.

''My worry is that how long will Asamoah Gyan take to recover and play in the other game?,'' the former FC Bayern Munich defender questioned on SuperSport

''He is our talisman, leader and our striker so we need him badly in this team,'' he opined.

The 40-year-old retired centre-back continued: ''When Jordan Plays around him, he always plays better because he makes the run and scores the goals. The team will miss him and I will look at what the coach will bring out against DR Congo.''

The extent of Asamoah Gyan's injury is yet to be known.
