GFA Communication Director, Henry Asante Twum has stated there is a difference between demotion and promotion and also explained the other means to get a replacement for AshantiGold SC in the GPL next season.

The Miners despite surviving, still have to compete in the third tier next season following their demotion for playing match of convenience with Inter Allies in the 2020/21 campaign.

With this, the Executive Council of the GFA couple of days ago, came out with a new format to select a team to replace AshantiGold.

However, the idea to select a replacement has been rejected by both Ebusua Dwarfs and Eleven Wonders who both believe they deserve to be that team automatically without any playoffs, leaving a very complicated issue for the country's highest football governing body.

Now, Spokesperson, Henry Asante Twum has emphasized that, demotion is rather a punishment and is therefore different from promotion. Also, he explained the other alternatives to find a replacement for the four time champions next season.

"The two (Promotion and demotion) ain't the same. Demotion is a punishment so in the verdict of the Disciplinary Committee which was affirmed by the Appeal's Committee is punishment for AshantiGold and Inter Allies. If it was performance, AshantiGold wouldn't have been demoted but they would since they have been found guilty of an offence."

"If any of the three second placed teams decide not to play in the playoffs, then can use the teams that finished third in the three zones so we have given them to confirm their participation and hopefully we will hold the draw and come out with the competition's modalities afterwards." He concluded
