The Black Princesses of Ghana commenced their 2022 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup campaign with a heavy defeat to United States of America (USA) in Group D opener on Thursday evening.

The female national U20 team of USA inflicted a 2-0 heavy defeat on Ghana in the match-day one fixture at the Estadio Alejandro Morera.

The Americans exercised their dominance over Ghana with some early incursions but the young goalkeeper of the Black Princesses, Grace Buoadi made a brilliant save to deny them from scoring but it was enough.

On the 11th minute, the pressure staged on the Ghanaians earned coach Tracey Kevins' side the opener through a powerful header from Michelle Cooper after a cross was delivered by Ally Sentnor.

The Black Princesses looked frustrated in the game as they were reduced to ten women after Jacqueline Owusu was shown a straight red-card for a horrible tackle on the half-hour mark.

Skipper Alyssa Thompson doubled the lead for the United States of America (USA) with a brilliant finish on the 38th minute of the game.

USA kept pushing for more goals before the whistle was blown was the break but none of their attempts earned them additional goals as the first half ended in a 2-0 loss for Ghana.

After the break, Ghana coach Ben Forkuo made a tactical substitution with the introduction of Mukarama Abdulai as replacement for Sharon Sampson. USA also substituted Michellea Cooper for Ally Sentnor.

Substitute Ally Sentnor needed just six minutes to announce her presence in the game with the third goal for USA after a defensive blunder from the Ghanaian defenders.

Coach Forkuo introduced more fresh legs like Louisa Aniwaa, Mafia Nyame and Rahama Jafaru to replace Cecilia Nyama, Suzzy Teye and Salamatu Abdulai respectively but their efforts were not enough to hand Ghana a consolation goal.
