The ex-Ghana coach is convinced the 1998 Fifa World Cup winner has what it takes to lead the four-time African champions and should be handed the top job.

Coach J.E Sarpong has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint Marcel Desailly as the new head coach of the Black Stars following the departure of Israeli gaffer Avram Grant.

The former Ebusua Dwarfs tactician believes the 48-year-old Ghanaian-born French man is the only candidate the nation can rely on in chalking laurels at the continent's flagship competitions.

The outspoken gaffer maintains that foreign coaches cannot bring success to the west African side, and so the need to desist from appointing them in leading the senior national team by the Ghana FA.

''Marcel Desailly for me is the right man for the vacant coaching job and I see him as the person who can end our nation's trophyless jinx,'' Sarpong said on UTV

'' Foreign coaches can't win  trophies for us and so I don't see the rationale behind their appointments,''

'' I think Marcel Desailly has what it takes to lead the senior national team as he remains the only option that can bring success to us when given the top coaching job,''

'' Again with the help of Ibrahim Tanko and Kwesi Appiah being part of his technical men in the dugout, I have no doubt that they can do the job when task to do so,'' he pointed out.

Marcel Desailly, who won the 1998 Fifa World Cup with France, is now a UEFA Pro License certificate holder and is eligible to handle the west African powerhous.
