Ghana captain Andre Ayew has opened up on how the Black Stars can progress from the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a painful defeat to Portugal on Thursday evening.

The Black Stars were defeated 3-2 by Fernando Santos' Portugal in the opening games of Group H at the Stadium 974.

Ayew grabbed the equalizer for Ghana on the 73rd minute after Cristiano Ronaldo had broken the virginity of the game through a contentious penalty in the 65th minute of the game.

Atlético Madrid star Joao Felix and Rafael Leao extended the lead for Portugal before Osman Bukari pulled a goal back for Ghana in the 89th minute of the brutal clash.

However, the Al Sadd attacker believes the four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions can make it out of the group stages of the global showpiece in Qatar

He said in an interview that Ghana need to score more and concede less in subsequent games in order to progress from our group.

“We always come out of difficult situations. We need to stay calm, go home, relax and increase our performance. We need to try and score more and concede less," Ayew told reporters.

Ghana will play against South Korea on Monday, 28th November at the Education City Stadium before facing Uruguay on 2nd December.
