ABDUL RAZAK YUSIF: The Ghanaian starlet has ‘Everything to become a high-level footballer’

Strong, quick and elegant, the Ghanaian starlet is turning heads at home and abroad.
Ghana is a renowned hotbed for African football talent and that steady flow won’t be ceasing anytime soon. Abedi Ayew, Tony Yeboah, Samuel Osei Kuffour, Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan are just a few who have graced the game with distinction.
Among the new wave of top young talents tipped to reach the highest level is Densu Rovers’ Abdul Razak Yusif. The young centre-back’s fledgling displays indicates that he could attain the status of his predecessors and take the football world by storm.
The Ejisu native has had his sights set on a career in the game from a young age. Fast forward to today, and his dreams are steadily coming through. “I chose to be a footballer and thus have no option than to work hard if I’m to achieve my dream as a top-level athlete.” He told kickgh.com
Neta FC, a colts club in Ejisu was where it all began for the then toothy-grinned eight-year-old regularly playing with the age group above. His name quickly started making the rounds in the region and his performances caught the attention of Division one side, Tanga FC whom he later joined as a schoolboy. It was in Bolgatanga that Yusif first got a taste of what’s to come. Upon attending a national justify exercise conducted by head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin in the Upper East Region, Yusif was selected by the technical handlers of the National U-17 to join the camp at Prampram for further assessment.
The rest was history as Yusif cemented a permanent place in the team. He was a regular starter for the Black Starlets as Ghana qualified for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana would go on to make the latter stages thus booking a ticket to the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India where they made the quarter-finals.
Yusif’s Fact File
Born: August 9, 2001
Place of birth: Accra, Ghana
Height/ weight: 181 cm / 65 Kg
Position: Defender
Current club: Densu Rovers SC
Yusif is a mature performer who possesses leadership qualities. Blessed with great strength, speed, in game intelligence and technical ability, Yusif is also extremely dominant in the air. His playing style has inevitably drawn comparisons with Ghanaian legend Samuel Osei Kuffour. With a calm temperament, he plays with a maturity that belies his tender years.
As well as his many attributes, he has shown himself to be versatile which has seen him deployed at right-back and defensive midfield on occasions. Yusif is comfortable using both feet, another quality which is rather rare among stoppers. Able to mix it up as a "nasty" defender, he stated that he wouldn't like to play against himself if he were a striker.
Although comfortable in possession, Yusif is usually pleased to get rid of the ball quickly by playing a simple pass to his nearest team-mate. However he has the ability to drive forward more and distribute better, and this aspect of his game will no doubt improve with experience.
Yusif turned down a host of top Ghana Premier League and Division one clubs as well interest from Europe to settle at Densu Rovers.
The towering 16-year-old explained his decision “I wanted a club that shared my vision and had my development at heart. Densu Rovers was the club with the best project for me now. I’m in no rush.” He stated
He certainly doesn’t lack confident and comes across a focused boy who’s got a good appetite for work “I have come this far by believing in myself and I hope to do more than what I am currently doing. I’ll continue to learn and do more.” He told Kickgh.com
Yusif recently earned a call up to Ghana’s national U-20, the Black Satellites. Another giant step in the blossoming career of this talented young man. Like many teenagers, Yusif still has some growing up to do. First he’ll need to gain some upper-body strength if he wants to compete at the highest level which should come with time as he grows into a man.
The learning curve will be steep but Yusif on evidence has all the attributes to be a high-level footballer. He cites Real Madrid and Spain star Sergio Ramos as the player he most admires, he’ll need to work hard to attain similar status. The next step/ move will be key in his development. A move to a top European side is possibly on the cards.
The new Samuel Kuffour? Ghana fans will certainly be hoping so.
