Kotoko beat ASEC Mimosas to lift Otumfuo Cup

Asante Kotoko lifted the Otumfuo Cup after pipping Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas in an international friendly on Sunday afternoon.

The Porcupine Warriors inflicted a 1-0 defeat on ASEC Mimosas to emerge champions of the Otumfuo's 20th anniversary Cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The match was played to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their Asante Kotoko's patron, Osei Tutu II reign as king of the Asante Kingdom.

The Ivorians looked very dangerous in the early minutes as Felix Annan was called to duty by Samake Gaoussou and Ouattara Lassina.

Songne Yacouba and Kwame Boahene came close from scoring the opener for the Porcupine Warriors but their strikes went wide.

On the half-hour mark, Stephen Nyarko snatched the lead for the homesters after connecting a cross from Kwame Boahene.

Coach CK Akonnor made two substitutions in the first half due to injuries as Songne Yacouba and Stephen Nyarko were replaced by Nurudeen Ibrahim and Emmanuel Gyamfi respectively.

On the stroke of halftime, Adama Traore nearly levelled the score for ASEC Mimosas but his strike was fisted out by goalkeeper Felix Annan.

After the break, ASEC Mimosas continued to mount pressure on the Porcupine Warriors lads as they were in search for the equaliser.

Substitute Abdul Fatawu could have doubled the score for the 'Kum Apem' lads but his audacious shot was cooled by goalkeeper Bamba Aboubakar.
