4 Things Asante Kotoko Fans Need To Know About Potential Signing Pierre Kwizera

Just days after releasing two foreign players (George Abege and Alex Didi), the Porcupine Warriors are reportedly on the verge of signing Burundi’s Pierre Kwizera.

The midfielder had previously played for AO Bujumbura, AFAD Djekanou, Simba SC, Rayon Sports and Al-Oruba Sur. But who is the 28-year-old who could provide a much needed competition for Justice Blay at the heart of Kotoko’s midfield?

Here’s a bite-sized rundown of what Asante Kotoko fans need to know about Pierre Kwizera

He is a Battler

At 5’7, Kwizera is an enforcer who loves to dominate the midfield for his clubs.

However, he also offers an attacking threat with his underappreciated dribbling abilities, despite defence being his primary focus. On a good day, the Burundian’s style of play is reminiscent of some of the best in his position.

Given his impressive statistics for Omani side Al- Oruba Sur as well as prior campaigns, it’s not unreasonable to think he could blossom in the physically demanding Ghanaian topflight. Tackles, interceptions, blocks and clearances are all areas of the game he excels.

No Nonsense

You’ve got to have some steel if you’re to thrive in the Ghanaian Premier League, and Kwizera has it in abundance.

He may be overzealous on occasion, but the Burundian international can learn to control his emotions and flourish for his employers.

Nevertheless, he has shown he can use his talents to devastating effect after performing excellently in aerial duels, as well as battle on the ground. Additionally, his engine makes him a menace for opponents to have to contend with.

... But Passing is Not

Two areas of Kwizera’s game which need tweaking are his passing and decision making. Too often, opponents have been able to dispossess him or pick off an attempted ball to a team-mate.

That simply won’t do if he is to come good in the Ghanaian topflight, where there’s even less time to select the correct option. Fortunately, it’s a skill that can be worked on in training and swiftly sorted out.

Represented Burundi At AFCON Last Summer

Pierre Kwizera made one appearance for Burundi during the 2019 AFCON in Egypt. The midfielder has 39 caps for his country, scoring three goals. Being capped at the international level is an accolade he can look back and certainly be proud of.
