Former Ghana international Razak Abdul Karim has stated that the Black Stars of Ghana cannot fail to win the trophy of the impending 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon.

The 1978 African footballer of the year says the current crop of the senior national team squad must end the 34 years trophyless jinx of the nation after failing to clinch the trophy in the last edition in Equatorial Guinea.

The newly installed CAF ambassador of the 2017 Afcon is pessimistic the four-time African champions cannot afford to miss the annexation of the impending continent flagship competition slated for January 14 to February 5 in Gabon.

I think this is the time for them [Black Stars] to win the trophy," the 60-year-old Afcon gold medalist told Kumasi-based Silver FM.

"Since we've been appointed as ambassadors for the CAF competition next year, whatever help that we can also give them to annex the trophy; I think we shall do that,"

"Now the Africa Cup of Nations tournament is fast approaching and a lot of things will be happening. There's going to be different set of players that will be participating in the competition,"

"And the performance of the players too is going to count as well. So I think this is the time for them to lift the trophy as it's long overdue," he declared.

Ghana Placed second in the 2015 edition after missing out on 8-9 penalty shootouts in the finals to La Cote d' Ivoire.
