Yahaya Mohammed leads GPL Team Of The Week after scoring first hat trick of the season; Check those who made it

The 2019/2020 football season kicked off over the weekend with some interesting games that produced equally interesting results.

With a total of 25 goals scored averaging 2.7 goals at every center, we can conclude and hope that the season has started well.

Kickgh.com look at the performing stars in Match Day 1 in a 4-4-2 formation.

GOALKEEPER

GK- John Moosie- (Techiman Eleven Wonders)

Unquestionably the goalkeeper of the round, the Eleven Wonders stopper John Moosie put in heroic performance against Asante Kotoko, pulling off a total of six saves against the Porcupine Warriors including two from point-blank range from Songne Yacouba.

Techiman Eleven Wonders lost on the day but they couldn’t have asked any more from their man between the sticks.

DEFENDERS

RB- Isaac Kwain – (Aduana Stars SC )

Aduana Stars pulled off an incredible 4-0 home victory over Inter Allies on Sunday which was no less impressive. Ne recruit Isaac Kwain did exceptionally well down the right flank, making tackles, interceptions and clearances and also assisted two of Yaya Mohammed’s three goals. The former Medeama man has indeed started his Aduana career on a good note.

CB- Mubarak Yussif- (Ashantigold SC)

Ashgold may have put in a fine attacking performance on Sunday beating the Wonder club, Accra Great Olympics- but it would be remiss to ignore the hard defensive graft that preserved a clean sheet for the home side.

Mubarak Yussif stood out in the Miners’ backline, making 3 tackles, three interceptions, 2 clearances and two blocked shots and scored his club’s opener during the 90 minutes.

CB- Zacharia Fuseini – (Berekum Chelsea)

Berekum Chelsea registered a vital away win against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports stadium.

New coach Alain  Andre had his four- man defence working hard, the centre-back stood out in particular, making three tackles and no less than eight clearances, their eventual clean sheet extremely hard-fought.

LB- Phillip Osei- (Medeama SC)

Osei was superb for the yellow and mauves last weekend.  He did very well going forward with consummate ease. He didn’t shirk his defensive duties either, weighing in with two tackles, one interception and one clearance.

MIDFIELDERS:

DM- Justice Blay – (Kotoko)

This time it was not Naby Keita or Songne Yacouba that gave Kotoko the points, but midfielder Justice Blay. The intelligent midfielder scored the only goal in the game, drawing the headlines with a powerful header. He did exceptionally well in the middle of the park setting the tone for the Porcupine Warriors with his splendid display.

CM- Jeffery Degorl - (Legon Cities)

The Lion Cities man is in fine form, and this weekend’s stalemate against Liberty Professionals was perhaps his best display yet. A man-of-the-match winning display saw him scoring a fantastic goal for the visitors.

RW- Amos Addai – (Ashantigold SC)

He is fast becoming a hero at the Len Clay sports stadium. He stepped up with another wonder strike against Great Olympics. The youngster is once again full of confidence this term. It was no surprise that the coach was pleased with his performance, as he scored as well as diligently tracking back to perform his defensive duties.

LW Jonah Atuquaye (Berekum Chelsea)

Jonah Atuquaye has been hitting the headlines with his goals in friendlies and the pint-sized forward fared no differently when Chelsea played as guests of Hearts of Oak.

A battle with the Phobians’ Larry Ibrahim Sumaila saw the forward come off the victor  with the latter being jeered by his own fans whilst Atuquaye went on to score for the visitors to give them the all important away victory.

ATTACKERS

ST- Emmanuel Ocran (Dreams FC)

The former Wa All Stars and Karela man continued his rich vein of form with a brace against King Faisal as well as creating a further two chances for teammates. He is certainly one of the men Karim Zito can rely on to produce the goodies.

ST- Yahaya Mohammed- (Aduana Stars)
Aduana Stars pulled off a surprise 4-0 victory over Inter Allies with the striker receiving most of the plaudits for his performance.

The experienced forward bagged a hatrick and created on further chance. In addition to making one tackle, one clearance to send his team top of the log.
