Ghana and Phoenix Risings FC midfielder Solomon Asante started the 2020 USL Championship on a high-flying mood with two goals against LA Galaxy II on Sunday morning.
Phoenix Risings FC recorded a 4-0 heavy home victory over LA Galaxy II in their league clash at the Casino Arizona Field.
The home side opened the floodgate as Asante set up Junior Flemmings perfectly with low cross and the Jamaican used his pace to beat LA Galaxy II goalkeeper Abraham Romero to the ball.
Jon Bakero doubled the lead for Phoenix Risings FC via a spot-kick after a Flemmings was dragged on the ground in the 18-yard box on the 40th minute
On the stroke of halftime, Asante collected a pass in the middle of the pitch and scorched a shot from 25-yards out that skipped past Romero in first-half stoppage time.
The shot beat the goalkeeper to his left side, just inside the post to make it 3-0 at halftime.
The 29-year-old scored his second of the match after collecting a half-clearance and hammering a shot towards the front post.
The shot took a deflection off a LA Galaxy defender and skipped over the goalkeeper to give Phoenix a 4-0 lead.
He was in action with his compatriot Owusu-Ansah Kontor for Phoenix Risings FC.
Asante was named the 2019 USL Championship best player after scoring 22 goals last season.
