Italian-born Ghanaian winger Emmanuel Gyasi played his 100th game with Spezia last night and despite his side's defeat against Juventus, he could celebrate with a gift from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Spezia held Juventus to a 0-0 stalemate in the first half last night, but the Old Lady eventually won the game with three goals scored in the second half.
Gyasi played his 100th game with the newly-promoted Serie A side in their 3-0 away loss to the Champions in Turin last night.
"It’s a great achievement, I am so happy for it, but it’s a pity we could not celebrate taking some points,” he told Spezia’s official website.
“Unfortunately, in the second half, we were punished at the first opportunity. We go home without points but with the knowledge of having played our cards well.
“Now it is vital to think about Saturday's game, which is fundamental for our season.
“It will be like a final for us. We’ll start preparing the game from tomorrow. We must try to impose ourselves and bring home the three points.”
Gyasi revealed he spoke to Cristiano Ronaldo after the previous meeting between Juve and Spezia in November, but the Portuguese did not swap shirts with him.
“He remembered me and he gave me his shirt at the end of the first half,” Gyasi said. It’s a real honour for me since he’s my football idol.”
Gyasi has been a key performer for Spezia since their promotion to the Italian Serie A where he has contributed in eight goals [scoring four and providing four assists ] in his debut Serie A season.
He has scored five goals and provided four assists for Spezia Calcio in all competitions this season so far.
Gyasi has a contract with Spezia Calcio until the summer of 2023 with a transfer fee of €1.80 million
