Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax have leapfrogged Man United in the race to sign FC Nordsjaelland striker Kamaldeen Sulemana, according to reports in UK

The two clubs have been locked in a race for the Ghana international, 19, in recent weeks and have both held discussions over a deal.

It is believed that that Ajax are now in the driving seat to secure Sulemana’s signature despite strong interest from United.

The Premier League giants’ pursuit has been led by director of football John Murtough but he has been unable to strike a deal.

Somewhere in last month, Manchester United delegation had jetted out to Denmark for talks today over the potential transfer of Sulemana.

Nordsjaelland chairman Tom Vernon is willing to sell the young forward and has set a £15m asking price.

Ajax had opened the bidding with a package worth £12m in total while United have stalled over their offers.

The Dutch giants are in the driving seat to seal a deal, partly because they will not need to secure a work permit but also due to the personal attention Marc Overmars is giving to the deal.

Under the new post-Brexit transfer rules, Sulemana does not have enough points to gain a work permit.

However, that will change if the teenager makes one more competitive appearance for Ghana or if the Danish league climbs one place in the Uefa co-efficients.

Ghana are in action on 8 June when they play against Morocco as part of their preparation for the African qualifiers for next year’s World Cup.

Sulemana, who joined Nordsjaelland in February of last year, scored ten goals and supplied seven assists in 28 appearances for the Danish outfit in the recently-completed season.
