Ghana international Solomon Asante scored and provided three assists in Phoenix Rising FC heavy win over LA Galaxy II on Sunday morning.

Phoenix Rising FC extended their lead on top of the 2021 USL table after inflicting a 5-0 defeat on LA Galaxy II in their match-week 13 encounter at the Wild Horse Pass Stadium.

In the space of 13 first half minutes during Saturday night’s 5-0 win at Wild Horse Pass Stadium, the Rising ensured they would do just that.

After Phoenix failed to turn any of its eight corner kicks against Charlotte into meaningful chances, Schantz placed a heavy emphasis on set pieces all week. In the 33rd minute, that work paid dividends, with midfielder Jon Bakero placing an inswinging corner kick towards the back post. Center back Joey Farrell rose to meet the ball, heading it back across goal into the path of Aodhan Quinn. From there, the midfielder couldn’t miss, scoring the first of three tap-ins for the Rising on the night.

Before the Rising could add a second, the Galaxy nearly turned the game on its head, scoring on a counterattack before Phoenix was rescued by the offside flag. That decision turned out to be the momentum swing Phoenix needed to go ahead 2-0.

Two minutes after the Galaxy’s disallowed goal, winger Solomon Asante scored his eighth goal of the season off a cross from striker Rufat Dadashov. Dadashov, reinserted into the starting lineup after three games on the bench, was instrumental throughout the night, providing an effective link between the Rising’s dominant midfield and its clinical attacking trio. On this occasion, he turned his defender, disguised a left-footed shot and slipped a cross in to Asante at the back post.

Dadashov completed Phoenix’s first-half flurry with a goal of his own, with Asante providing the assist. The goal was Dadashov’s first since a brace against Las Vegas Lights on May 23.

In the 78th minute, David Egbo — who had started over Dadashov in the previous three matches — scored a goal of his own off the bench, finishing an Asante cross with a diving header from just outside the six-yard box. Twelve minutes later, he scored his second, beating Galaxy goalkeeper Eric Lopez one-on-one before smashing home into an empty net.

Asante has now been involved 14 goals, scoring eight times and providing six assists in 12 game outings for Phoenix Rising FC.
