The Spanish giants have reportedly expressed interest in signing the Ghanaian defender from Southampton in the next transfer window.

FC Barcelona have identified Ghanaian international Mohammed Salisu as a possible replacement for veteran centre-back Gerard Pique.

According to Spanish tabloid Fichajes, the 22-year-old guardsman is among the five targeted players of FC Barcelona as replacement for Pique who is edging closer to retirement.
Others who have been shortlisted by the technical team of FC Barcelona as a replacement for the club's legend in the back line are Aymeric Laporte, Sven Botman, Matthijs De Ligt and Cristian 'Cuti' Romero.
FC Barcelona have decided to monitor the above-mentioned players following the uninspiring performance from Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti.
Salisu, who is currently one of the best centre-backs in the English Premier League, joined Southampton on a four-year deal worth €12 million from Real Valladolid last summer.
His debut season was hampered, arriving in England with a troublesome injury but he has filled the void left by Jannik Vestergaard spectacularly so far and hardly put a foot wrong in recent Premier League fixtures against Manchester United and West Ham.
The Kumasi-born has formed a strong partnership in defense with Jack Stephens at Southampton to give much more experienced opponents nothing throughout the game and ensure a good point for the St. Mary's Stadium outfit.
It is believed that FC Barcelona scouted him during his days at Real Valladolid before moving to Southampton last summer — he broke through into senior football in Spain with Valladolid and seemingly caught the eye of Barcelona when putting in dominant displays against them and other teams in La Liga.
The 22-year-old has now featured in all four Premier League fixtures for Southampton in the ongoing 2020/21 season's campaign and expected to display another jerking output against Manchester City this weekend.
Since his arrival at Southampton, he has made nineteen game outings for the club in all competitions.
Salisu is yet to represent Ghana at any level despite his invitation to the Black Stars of Ghana few months.
