Joseph Paintsil and Caleb Ekuban earn late Black Stars call-up for Mali, Qatar friendlies Featured

The Turkey based duo have received an invitation for the Black Stars international friendly against Mali and Qatar.

 
 

Coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has handed late call-ups to Caleb Ekuban and Joseph Paintsil for the two matches scheduled to be staged in Turkey.

 
Trabzonspor striker Caleb Ekuban has been invited for the games as replacement for John Antwi who has been ruled due to visa issues.
 
On-loan KRC Genk attacker has earned his debut call-up to the senior national team of Ghana to replace Lumor Agbeyenu who can't travel to Turkey because his work permit has expired.
 
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Sunday night that three players namely Richard Ofori, John Antwi and Lumor Agbeyenu will miss Ghana’s friendly games against Mali and Qatar due to paper work.
 
The trio were ruled out  ruled out of the games because his work permit has expired and would require at least, two weeks for it to be renewed.
 
An excerpt from the GFA statement reads "Meanwhile Head Coach C.K Akonnor has handed late call ups to Turkey based duo, Caleb Ekuban (Trabzonspor) and Joseph Paintsil (Ankaragucu). Ekuban has been drafted in to replace John Antwi, while, Paintsil replaces Lumor Agbenyenu."
 
C.K Akonnor, now has two goalkeepers, Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Razak Abalora, available for selection following the unavailability of no.1 choice Richard Ofori due to visa issues.
 
Two players namely Kudus Mohammed and Jeffrey Schlupp have also suffered injuries which makes them doubtful for the matches.
 
French-born Alexander Djiku recovered from the knock he picked up last weekend to feature for RC Strasbourg in their 3-0 home loss to Lille OSC.
 
Ghana will play the Eagles of Mali on Friday, October 09, before taking on 2022 FIFA World Cup host Qatar, three days later, both games will be played in Antalya, Turkey.
 
The two matches will serve as preparatory games for Head Coach C.K Akonnor and his technical team who have yet to taste competitive football since their appointment in January this year.
 
The Black Stars will play North African giants Sudan next month in a 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
