MATCH REPORT: Ghana edge past Burkina Faso to win 2020 WAFU U20 championship

The Black Satellites of Ghana with 2-1 triumph over the Young Stallions of Burkina Faso becomes the 2020 champions of the WAFU Zone B U20 Championship.


The Burkinabés started really well posing lots of threats but the consistent back line of the Satellites were able to handle them well in the opening minutes of the game.

Another brilliant interception from centre-back Kobbina Amoah prevented the Stallions from snatching the first lead.
However, Ghana begun to pick their pieces, Emmanuel Essiam found Uzair Alhassan with a fine pass down the right flanks but his cross went above the far post with nobody there to do the connection.
Finally, the Young Stallions broke the deadlock on the 16th minute through Kouame Botue who connected into the buttom left corner from a fine defence splitting pass from Cyril Chade.
The Black Satellites look to get back on level as Benjamin Aloma's cross came straight at goalkeeper Sidi Diawara who was all alone in his area.
Again, another counter break for Burkina Faso but Danlad Ibrahim positioned himself at the right place to gather that effort.
The Satellites returned on level terms after 40 minutes following skipper Daniel Afriyie's follow up from Precious Boah's free kick which went through the legs of the goalkeeper.
Just on the stroke of half time, the Young Stallions nearly doubled their lead but Hamed Ouattara's cross went off the crossbar, initially seemed like it wasn't going into the poles.

Ghana came really strong in the second half firing from all angles to get their second and probably winner of the encounter.
Early incursion as Ofori McCarthy sent a pass which was chest-controlled by Daniel Afriyie to Mathew Anim-Cudjoe who made a good run but his shot went straight at the goalkeeper.
The Young Stallions were awarded a free kick just behind the edge of the box but Chide Cyril's effort went wide over the goalpost.
Ghana pushed again in a quest to get another goal after Anim-Cudjoe found Emmanuel Essiam with a fine pass but shot straight at the Stallions goalie.
Ghana were all over the game having a great second half but the Stallions were just careful staying mostly in their half to allow the Satellites do most of the possession.
At last, Ghana netted the second goal of the day to lead for the first time in the game.
Percious Boah snatched the match-winner for the male national U20 team with a stunning free-kick on the 79th minute of the game.
With six minutes to full time, the Young Stallions with a glorious opportunity but a timed challenge from Benjamin Aloma denied the effort directing it to corner kick instead. 
On the 89th minute Sule Mohammed with a fantastic volley nearly found Ghana's third but was tipped off by goalkeeper Sidi Diawara.
The tight defence of Ghana were able to hold the Stallions until the referee blows his whitlse to end the game at the Charles de Gaulle Stadium in Porto-Novo.
The Black Satellites are the 2020 WAFU Zone B U20 champions.
