Ghana Football Association mouthpiece Henry Asante Twum has confirmed what Ghanaians have been waiting for weeks now stating some of the foreign players will join the camp of the Black Stars by the close of this week as they steps in high in preparations towards the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

For the first time in a while, the senior national team has been dominated by local players who were initially invited to replace most of the players who plies their trade abroad and are unlikely to honour the call ups due to the recent rise in the novel coronavirus pandemic globally.

The team comprise of only two foreign players in camp right now thus Mubarak Wakaso and Emmanuel Boateng who still awaits the commencement of the Chinese Super League having ended their season early this year playing for Jiangsu Suning and Dalian Yifang respectively.

Clearing the air, GFA Spokesperson Henry Asante Twum indicated they are really impressed with how the local players are working hard and look really poised for the upcoming qualifiers.

Also, he noted and admitted that, getting the service of some of the players outside will be very difficult at the moment since most of the clubs are not willing to do that but confirmed some have given them the assurance of coming and will join the group by the close of the week.

“At the moment, Emmanuel Boateng and Mubarack Wakaso from China are the only foreign players we have in the team. We are impressed that the home-based players honoured the call-up and are working hard as we head into week 4 of our preparations.”

“Because of COVID-19 most of the foreign players are not available. But we are looking forward to naming a few of them that will be available this week to be part of the current squad.”

The Black Stars of Ghana will take on Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Johannesburg before wrapping up the 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe at home, with the two clashes coming up by the end of the month.
