Daniel Amartey impressed in his first match for the Black Stars in three years.

Daniel Amartey who was making his first appearance for the Black Stars since 2018 put up a disciplined performance that left coach Charles Akonnor impressed.

The Leicester City defender was one of Ghana's best players on the night in Rabat and he would be disappointed the team lost.

Ghana lost the friendly encounter 1-0 following a second-half howler by Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora.

After the match, Akonnor reserved praised Amartey who due to injuries was not invited to the Black Stars for three years.

The coach said: Daniel is a disciplined boy. I have known for a while, even before I became the coach of the Black Stars. When I went to Europe, he was injured so I visited him and spoke to him and waited for the moment.

He is a very positive addition to the team, he has been away for a long but there was no sign of rustiness from him even though he has been away for a long time and so you look at the players we have and those who were not here i.e. Partey, Wakaso and others, should we get a full house and abide by the same rules of the game and how we want to play, I think we will do well."

Amartey had a successful 2020-21 season, helping Leicester win their first-ever FA Cup.
