Michael Essien confident Chelsea will win the Champions League

Former Ghanaian international Michael Essien has tipped his former club Chelsea to win the Uefa Champions League this season following their recent stupendous output in the competition.


The Londoners completed what looked like a 'done deal' after humbling Portuguese champions FC Porto in Seville by 2-0 in the first leg of the quarter final with the return encounter set to be honoured at the same Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizuan in a week time.

Speaking on talkSPORTS, the club legend has backed the current Chelsea squad to win the competition and will be a great achievement for them and the club.
He added by saying, his former Chelsea teammate Lampard should be given much credit if Chelsea achieve that glory following his goodworks when he was in charge giving some youngsters like Mason Mount a chance in the first team. He also heaped praises on Thomas Tuchel stating he is the right choice for the job.
“I think they can win it. If they win the Champions League that would be a great achievement for the players and the football club."
“I have to be proud of him for what he did because I think he did a very good job. He brought several young players through so I think he did a good job. He did very well."
For Tuchel, he came in and is doing a great job at the moment. I think he’s the right man for the team."
The current FC Nordsjaelland trainer, was sensational during his spell with the Blues playing over 100 appearances at the Stamford Bridge and also form part of the Chelsea squad that won them their first ever Champions league title in 2012 in Munich
