2022 World Cup: Morocco makes history after humbling Portugal to become the first African nation to reach Semi-Final Featured

Morocco silenced Portugal by a-lone goal to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup at the Al Thumama stadium.


Youssef En-Nesyri's header was enough to propel Walid Regragui's Atlast Lions to a historic feat.

Morocco became the first African nation to reach the last eight at the mundial, and the only Arab nation to do so in the process.
Walid Regragui wrote his name indelibly in the history of the World Cup after becoming the first African coach to be in the semi's.
Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was at his usual best as he denied Portugal from finding the back of the net after dominating play.
Joao Felix jumped highest to connect a free-kick to the right post on the 5th minute, but Yassine Bounou denied with a brilliant save.
Youssef En Nesyri's header flew just over the bar from inside the box on the 7th minute from a corner.
Joao Felix chanced onto a rebound to sent a thunderous strike to deflect off Jawad  El Yamiq to miss the bar.
Youssef En Nesyri heads home the opener in the right side of goal, after he rose highest before Ruben Dias and goalkeeper Diogo Costa to connect Yahya Attiat-Allah's perfect  cross from the left side of attack in the 42nd minute.
Three minutes later, the post denied Bruno Fernandez the equaliser just from the edge of the box at the right side of attack.
Goncalo Ramos sent wide the right post after latching onto a cross at the mercy of goalkeeper Yassine Bounou on the 58th minute.
Bruno Fernandez received a fine pass from the left side of attack at the edge of the box on the 64th minute, but his effort flew just over the post.
Cristiano Ronaldo set-up Joao Felix on the edge of the box but Yassine Bounou tipped the ball off spectacularly from the top left corner, to prevent Portugal from equalising on the 83rd minute.
Yassine Bounou rescued Morocco again after brilliantly denying Cristiano Ronaldo from the equalising from inside the box in the 1st additional minute of the second half.
Walid Cheddira was shown the marching orders after his stepped on Joao Felix in the additional minutes.
Pepe missed the right post by inches after heading Joao Felix cross in the 6th minute of the additional time.
