The Ghana Football Association earlier this morning announced a huge sponsorship deal with MTN Ghana for some of our national teams and Presidsnt Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku said they have now solved one of the best headaches they have been having as an association.
Africa's leading telecommunication firm, MTN earlier this morning announced a deal worth $2 million with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), becoming the official headline sponsor of four national teams.
The two-year deal signed on Thursday, August 14, 2025 in Accra, is unlike the previous one as this will benefit the senior men’s team (Black Stars), senior women’s team (Black Queens), the under-20 men’s team (Black Satellites), and the under-17 men’s team (Black Starlets).
According to Stephen Blewett, the chief executive officer of MTN Ghana, the company's decision to invest in Ghanaian football is based on its long-standing dedication to the growth of sports in the West African country and its faith in the ability of football to bring people together.
As Ghana's national teams set to commence preparations for impending international tournaments, the sponsorship comes at a crucial moment.
Speaking after the deal, GFA boss Kurt Okraku, who is referred to as the ‘Game Changer’ stated with so much optimism that our national teams especially those at youth level will now get the best and competitive preparations when heading to major tournaments
“This investment by MTN would ensure that these young boys, Black Queens, and Satellites would have the best of preparations that would put them in the competitive mood for the big championships,” Okraku said.
“The biggest challenge of the full association has been solved by MTN. Most often, I don't really tell my story, but you need to occupy this seat for two days or one day to fully understand the problems that we go through in bringing talents like the Starlets up to become the John Paintsils and the Fatau Daudas. It's not easy.”
MTN, Ghana’s largest mobile network operator, has a long history of sports sponsorship, including its ongoing title sponsorship of the Ghana FA Cup.
The senior men national team the Black Stars will regroup very soon to take on Chad and Mali in their next matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which comes off in September
