League leaders Medeama SC were held to a frustrating 1–1 draw by a spirited Hohoe United side in their matchweek eight clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was a match full of intensity, early drama, and tactical discipline as the newly promoted Hohoe outfit matched the table toppers stride for stride, leaving the Yellow and Mauves to settle for a share of the spoils despite their dominance in possession (60%)

The hosts made a dream start in front of their lively home crowd, taking the lead inside just five minutes through midfielder Francis Odoom, who showed great composure to slot home a beauty after Medeama goalkeeper Felix Kyei failed to deal with the hosts fierce effort.

That early breakthrough sent the Hohoe fans into delirium, as the underdogs began to believe they could pull off a major upset against the league leaders. Captain Safian Usman marshalled the defence superbly, denying Abdul Salam and Prince Owusu on several occasions with timely interventions.

However, Medeama gradually found their spark, dictating the play through midfield duo Salim Adams and Manuel Mantey. Their persistence paid off two minutes before halftime when Abdul Salam, the club’s in-form striker restored parity with a poacher’s finish in the 43rd minute.

After the restart, Medeama looked determined to complete the comeback, pressing Hohoe United deep into their own half. Kelvin Nkrumah’s curling effort narrowly missed the target, while Prince Owusu forced Kwaku Musah into a fine save from close range moments later.

Hohoe United, however, refused to buckle. Their midfield trio of Odoom, Osei, and Ati Sena worked tirelessly to stifle Medeama’s flow, while Paul Kwame and John Alossode stood firm at the back. Anane Keke David nearly restored the hosts’ lead late on, but his header flashed just wide of the far post.

Medeama continued to hunt but could not find a winner, with Rich Sackey’s stoppage-time header sailing harmlessly over the bar as the final whistle confirmed a hard-earned draw for Hohoe United.

The result sees Hohoe United climb to ninth place on the league table with nine points after eight matches (two wins, three draws, and three defeats), as they continue their steady adaptation to Premier League football.

For Medeama SC, the draw keeps them top of the table with 17 points, but head coach Ibrahim Tanko will feel slightly disappointed after his side failed to capitalize on their chances against a newly promoted opponent.

Hohoe United will next face Nations FC away from home, while Medeama SC travel to Dormaa to neck it down with Aduana FC as the race for the Ghana Premier League title intensifies.
