Member of Parliament for Berekum West, Dickson Kyere-Duah, has called on Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to allocate a number of slots to home-based players in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His appeal comes after Ghana secured qualification for the global tournament with a 1–0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, a result that sealed the Black Stars’ place at next year’s competition in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Kyere-Duah suggested that five spots should be reserved for players from the Ghana Premier League, emphasizing that their inclusion would not only motivate local talents but also contribute to the financial growth of domestic clubs.

“There is a possibility that some players will be at the tournament but will not kick a football,” he told JoySports.
“Maybe we select 21 players strictly on merit, and then deliberately include four or five local players who have clearly distinguished themselves. Our local clubs need the revenue — we need that money to develop football in general.”

The lawmaker stressed that such a move would promote balance between foreign-based and home-based players, while increasing the visibility and market value of the local league on the global stage.

The official draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place on December 5, 2025, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
