Kenyan heavyweights Gor Mahia FC have announced Ghanaian gaffer Charles Kwablan Akonnor as their new head coach with Bismark Kobi-Mensah as his assistant, ahead of the upcoming season 

The 51-year-old is joining the twenty-one time Kenyan champions on a two-year deal after a fruitful negotiations between both parties 

He will be assisted by his compatriots; Bismark Kobi Mensah and Ben Owu as the goalkeeper’s coach 

CK Akonnor will be stepping in as replacement for Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam, who got jettisoned at the end of last season after a trophy-less campaign and is expected to patch all cracks to rise up the team back to where they belong.

Speaking during his unveiling, the experienced gaffer said; 

“As for me, first of all, it is the chemistry of the players, strengthening the chemistry within the players,” he said.

“They need to have that understanding, that love, that passion, that they will play together no matter what it is.”

“Every game will not be the same, so we need to understand tactical awareness of what we want to do,” he added. “This is Africa, and sometimes you go to a place where the field doesn’t favour you, so you need to adjust your style of play.”

“Their fitness will be very important,” he said. “They need to be fit to demonstrate what we’ve been doing in the past weeks and months on the field”, he concluded

C.K Akonnor has been out of action since his jettisoning as Black Stars head coach in 2021, and has so much experience and exposure in the Ghana Premier League having handled clubs like Sekondi Eleven Wise, Dreams FC, AshantiGold SC and the two giants; Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
