Black Stars assistant coach John Paintsil has welcomed the newly announced Ghana Premier League sponsorship deal, describing it as a huge relief for club owners who have been struggling to sustain their teams in the absence of financial backing.

Last week, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed a partnership with Adesa Production for the coverage of the upcoming league season. Under the agreement, each of the 18 top-flight clubs will receive GHC 1 million, amounting to a total of GHC 18 million in funding.

Paintsil believes the deal will significantly ease the financial burden on club owners.

“The 18 million GHC for the GPL clubs is a big boost; it will lift the stress of the club owners. People running football in Ghana have been getting tired without sponsorship from anywhere,” he told reporters during the unveiling of another sponsorship between the GFA and MTN.

The MTN deal, valued at $2 million, will support four national teams, including the Black Stars. Paintsil was present at the announcement ceremony and praised the efforts of the GFA in securing back-to-back partnerships.

The former Ghana defender will now turn his attention to national team duties, joining Otto Addo’s technical team as the Black Stars prepare for next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.

The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season is set to kick off on September 12.
