Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has called on Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to elevate his game as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite steering Ghana to the global showpiece after finishing top of Group I with 25 points, Addo has faced mounting public scrutiny, with some fans questioning his tactics and consistency.
Speaking to UTV, Adams acknowledged the achievement but insisted qualification alone is not enough.
“I am happy we have qualified, but that does not mean everything was cool. I expect the coach [Otto Addo] to do a lot more,” Adams said.
The minister stressed that the World Cup presents an entirely different level of competition, urging the coach to fine-tune his tactical approach to meet the demands of the tournament.
“The qualifiers are entirely different,” he continued. “Sometimes you get a superior advantage over other countries, but at the World Cup, you can face Asians, Europeans, South Americans, or North Americans, and these countries all have different styles of play. Your reading of the game must be different.”
Adams’ comments come as Ghana begin preparations for their fifth appearance at the World Cup, with Addo expected to name a preliminary squad in the coming months.
